PTSD

 DSM-V

In 2013, the American Psychiatric Association revised the PTSD diagnostic criteria in the fifth edition of its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V).  The eight (8) diagnostic criteria can easily be found through a search on the internet.  The reason for the changed diagnostic criteria found in DMS-V versus those found in DMS-IV for PTSD is that it took into account things learned from more recent scientific research and clinical experience.

Returning Veterans

Must of this had to do with returning veterans and the delay in symptoms of PTSD manifesting to such a degree that it could accurately be diagnosed.

Wondering if you are experiencing PTDS?  The web sight I found the  clearest and most concise in listing the 8 criteria used to diagnose PTSD is found at Medscape.com and of course Wikipedia has a lengthy presentation for those who are seeking more in-depth information on this subject.
